A Hitwise report on website traffic to state tourism sites puts an unusual state on top of the list – Michigan! www.michigan.org attracted visitors in record #s in April and accounted for 7% of the traffic to the 50 state tourism sites, followed by VA and AK. The interesting finding – 65% of those who actually visit michigan.org do travel to Michigan. Apparently, Michigan’s offline “Pure Michigan” campaign has done a good job in driving traffic to the website. Integrated marketing has in the past proven to be more effective than online only or offline only campaigns. Better to “engage” the consumer at every possible point of contact if the campaign objective is to relaunch, reposition or rejuvenate a mature market. The michigan website also presents an uncluttered experience and business-like content.
