Google’s blending search results

Google is making news again, this time with something it knows best – search. The venerable “google search” is getting a “universal” makeover. To put it plainly, the next time someone types a query for say new york hotels, Google will serve up a “medley” of results (regular results plus a selection from its vertical search engines (books, music, video, image, news, maps, local et al). The concept is powerful and in true Google style, very much in tune with the times. Universal search will increase the relevance and richness of search results to the user and knowing Google’s reputation for user-friendliness, the medley is likely to present as smooth an experience as the original search results. An illustrated guide is available for ordinary mortals confounded by all the SEM jargon!
